Stories in your pocket:
Web of Stories (webofstories.com) began as an archive of video recordings of many of the greatest scientists of our time telling their life stories. As the number of speakers and stories grew, a web of related stories formed. After a while, we also started to invite famous people outside the field of science to tell their life stories.
Now, some of these videos can be viewed on your iPhone thanks to a new Web of Stories app that allows you to watch, download and share some of the fascinating stories which we have recorded.
In this app, Freeman Dyson tells his life story. Dyson moved to Cornell University after graduating from Cambridge University with a BA in Mathematics. He subsequently became a professor and worked on nuclear reactors, solid state physics, ferromagnetism, astrophysics and biology. He has published numerous books and, among other honours, has been awarded the Heineman Prize and the Royal Societys Hughes Medal.
Browsing and saving favourite stories by Freeman Dyson to your iPhone is easy – you can, in effect, keep his life story in your pocket! You can also share these videos on social media and via e-mail. It couldn’t be simpler!
Our website, www.webofstories.com, has other notable speakers from different walks of life with iPhone apps currently available for five other speakers. Our aim is to satisfy the need we believe people have to listen to engaging stories. The great Argentinian writer Borges said, “Comment is dead before the ink is dry, but a story lives forever”. So you can blame Borges for Web of Stories!
